Investigating High Energy Bills

❗ High heating bills? This is often the real reason 👇

I was called out to investigate a customer’s very high heating costs.

After calculating the Seasonal Coefficient of Performance (SCOP) — comparing energy used to heat delivered — the system came out at 2.1.

For reference, a well-installed heat pump should be achieving around 3.3–3.6.

As soon as I inspected the installation, the issue was clear.

❌ Pipework not vapour sealed

❌ Insulation poorly fitted

❌ Insulation full of water

All of this causes huge heat loss and seriously hurts system efficiency.

You can see in the video just how bad it was.

The client wanted to re-insulate the pipework herself, so I provided:

✔️ A full shopping list

✔️ A simple step-by-step guide to do it properly

Most of the time, it’s not the heat pump…

It’s the installation.
